A Life Illustrated:
The Story of Jean-Michel Augustin
This project is inspired by the life of Jean-Michel Augustin, a French man born in 1929, whose experiences spanned some of the most transformative moments of the 20th century. From Paris to Marseille and even the distant shores of Martinique, his journey reflects a world reshaped by war, migration, and personal resilience.

The idea for this project emerged as part of a celebration of Jean-Michel’s 90th birthday. His story is written by Aurelie Quinchard, shared through personal anecdotes, weaves together the man’s memories with the sweeping societal changes he witnessed. As an artist, I had the honor of bringing this rich narrative to life through seven illustrations, each representing a pivotal moment in his journey.

The illustrations are paired with photographs from Jean-Michel’s life. By combining art and history, this project seeks to honor Jean-Michel Augustin’s past while offering a vivid glimpse into the personal stories that make up the larger narrative of our shared human experience.
